Respite
- Benhaven established our Respite Center in order to fill an essential need in supporting families in Connecticut who have a family member struggling with behavioral challenges and diagnosed with autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or a developmental disability. Our Respite Center is funded through the Department of Developmental Services for youth ages 8 – 21 enrolled in their Behavioral Services Program (BSP). Benhaven opened its Respite Center in North Haven in September 2024. The Respite Center is thoughtfully designed with comfort and safety as priorities. It features four cozy bedrooms, a fully updated kitchen, modernized and accessible bathrooms, assistive technology, a spacious dining area, and a living room equipped with comfortable seating, toys, and recreational games. Every area has been carefully adapted to meet diverse needs, fostering a sense of security, inclusivity, and belonging.
- Benhaven’s Respite Center provides caregivers a much-needed break, while ensuring that their loved ones are safe, engaged, and receiving exceptional care. The center is intentionally focused to feel like a home away from home, providing structured activities, recreational events, and individualized support from our experienced staff. Individuals can stay at the center beginning Friday afternoons through Monday mornings. Our center offers a welcoming environment where families and their loved ones can find support, relief, and high-quality care tailored to their unique needs. Each weekend has specialized recreational events planned for the guests to participate in that are tailored to that weekend’s guests like, interests, and opportunities for the guests to get to know each other.
