Physical Education

Benhaven believes in the importance of improving the fitness of its students as well as developing skills and fostering interests needed for lifelong health and wellness.

Benhaven School’s physical education program is overseen by a CT-certified physical education teacher. A specialized adapted physical education curriculum has been specifically developed to maintain or increase one's physical fitness level through closely monitored aerobic activity, weight training, community fitness, and recreational activities. The physical education program encompasses the use of fitness machines and technologies (such as tablet devices), as well as adaptive recreational and sport-related equipment. The program is designed to meet the individual’s specific needs and to provide a comfortable and safe learning environment in which a progressive and challenging educational experience can transpire. Each student will strive to meet his/her own personalized conditioning goals with instruction and support from the physical education teacher and other staff members.

In keeping with Benhaven’s mission, students may participate in community-based fitness lessons and recreational activities. Some of the sessions offered include rock climbing, hiking and ice skating; field trips include attending local ice hockey and minor league baseball games.
