Access Services

How do I begin to arrange for an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) assessment and therapy delivery for my child? Contact the Benhaven Office at (203) 555-7704 or write Arlene Dworkin Kaye at akaye@benhaven.org.

If Benhaven CBS is able to provide services, based on availability of supervising staff, they will explain how to move through the steps described below:

For children who qualify and are active members of HUSKY A, C or D:

  • In order to be eligible for these services, children must have an Autism Diagnostic Evaluation (ADE) completed by a licensed clinician, MD, APRN or licensed psychologist. Medicaid will pay for this evaluation. To have an evaluation scheduled, contact Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership.
  • Once this evaluation and all necessary permissions are on file with the Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership, Benhaven CBS will be able to contact them for authorization to begin assessment. An intake appointment will be scheduled to meet with you to review your HIPAA rights, discuss the elements of the program and sign all necessary Benhaven CBS paperwork. Typically, you will meet the supervising BCBA at this time and evaluation will commence shortly afterwards.

For children who have coverage through commercial insurance providers:

  • Obtain a comprehensive Autism Diagnostic Evaluation completed by a qualified health care provider, if one has not already been completed. Please keep in mind that insurance will not accept an educational diagnostic completed by public school.
  • Benhaven CBS will contact your insurance company to find out whether your child is eligible for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) through your provider. It is important to determine what the family responsibility will be regarding deductibles and co-pays. Once Benhaven CBS has confirmation that your insurance covers ABA services and you decide to move forward, authorization for assessment will be submitted to your insurance provider. Keep in mind, that some providers do not require prior authorization. In those cases, an intake appointment will be scheduled, at which time you will meet the supervising BCBA, review your HIPAA rights, and sign all necessary Benhaven CBS documents. Evaluation will commence shortly afterwards. For insurance that requires prior authorization, an intake appointment will be scheduled as soon as approval is received.
