Congratulations to Benhaven's PE Teacher Dan Kahl

Congratulations to Benhaven School’s physical education teacher Dan Kahl! Dan has been named CT’s Adaptive Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the CT Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CTAHPERD). This comes as no surprise to those of us who work with him.

Dan began working at the School just over seven years ago. His commitment to and enthusiasm for his students and their well-being is evident every day with every class. He motivates students who may be less inclined to participate and challenges all students to achieve a greater level of fitness. He collaborates with his colleagues, integrating other domains into his physical education classes.

Dan loves to learn, and it shows! He attends CTAHPERD’s conference each year. One year, he returned with the plans for and then built (on his own time) a 70 foot inflatable whale which has proved to be both an effective teaching tool and a positive sensory experience for his students. He is a frequent presenter at our professional development days. He has been one of the leaders in helping us learn alternatives to seclusion and restraint.

We are proud of this recognition of Dan’s work in the field and the impact he has on our students! Way to go, Dan!!
