On Sunday, April 3rd, Benhaven Academy students and staff met in Bridgeport to attend an AHL game that included the Islanders taking on the Phantoms for Autism Appreciation night. There were many gameday activities like a robotics showcase, coloring station, Lego building station and a visiting guide dog. They even provided a sensory space for all guests. It was loud, busy, fast and exciting. The guys were chatting it up, loving the concession stand food and enjoying watching the game through the glass, seeing the intense hits and the puck traveling at 90 miles an hour into the net. We even had a surprise visit from one of our current students, a certified EMT, working the event. It was great to see friends connecting outside of school and engaging in camaraderie. These outings and events are essential because they allow us to heed those interactions with the individuals we serve and create some special memories for them.
