Benhaven Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and this year’s theme is “Back to Basics”. According to the National Mental Health Association (MHA), “after the last two years of pandemic living, many people are realizing that stress, isolation, and uncertainty have taken a toll on their well-being. Our goal is to provide foundational knowledge about mental health & mental health conditions and information about what people can do if their mental health is a cause for concern.”

The month was first recognized in 1949 by the Mental Health America organization which later became the MHA.  The founder, Clifford Whittingham Beers was a Connecticut resident.

Throughout May, MHA and their partners throughout the country will reach millions of people spreading the word that “mental health is something everyone should care.”
