Paraprofessional Teaching Assistant


Benhaven’s mission:  is to enable people with autism and pervasive developmental disorders to participate in community life, exercise productive control over their own lives, have meaningful relationships and associations, are gainfully employed, and experience happiness and personal satisfaction.

 Benhaven School is looking for paraprofessional staff to join our team. We are a 12 month program, located in Wallingford, CT. Our school is for students who have a diagnosis of autism and intellectual disabilities.

You will have the opportunity to mentor individuals, lead by example, demonstrate leadership skills and become a role model as you grow both professionally and personally with our team.

Collaboration and problem solving are strong skills among all employees and our students’ families. There are many opportunities for career pathing along with professional development, subsequent promotions, increased responsibilities and wages.

Our paraprofessionals work with special education teachers and related services providers to implement individualized educational plans (IEP’s).

Mentoring, one on one and some fading to a higher ratio of student to para’s are successesin which our paraprofessionals work to achieve on a daily basis. Teaching occurs in classrooms and across school and community setting.

This is a fulltime position: starting pay is $14.75

90 day probationary period, after meeting this successfully the hourly rate is increased           to $15.89

Seven Vacation, ten Sick (accrued) and three Personal (prorated) days. Twelve  paid   holidays including Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, ChristmasDay/Week and New Year’s Day

Monday – Friday 9:20 a.m. – 4:20 p.m. Year Round


We welcome paraprofessional experience, however, we will train for this position. Candidates must agree to the following:

DCF and DDS background checks

State and Federal Fingerprinting and Criminal background checks

       Be prepared to provide the following before an interview 

Three (3) professional letters of reference

                                   Highest Degree, Diploma or able to produce Transcripts

                        Two forms of ID to an interview., e.g., valid Driver’s License, Social Security         Card, Birth Certificate and/or valid Passport
