Special Education Teacher


Benhaven School provides educational services in a 12-month school year to students with autism and intellectual disability in the areas of social/behavioral development, functional academics, ADL, communication and vocational training in both school and community settings.Our high-need students range in age from 6-21. Benhaven values professional development, providing its own professional development opportunities as well as granting professional days and expenses paid to relevant conferences.


  • Develop and implement IEP (incl. transition planning and behavioral support plans)
  • Oversee training and implementation of student programs with paraprofessional staff
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with families, specialists, residential and medical staff regarding student progress
  • Organize and coordinate classroom, student and van (for community teaching) schedules


  • CT special education certification
  • Strong leadership and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to positive programming for students with challenging behavior
  • Excellent team skills
  • Expertise teaching students with autism/ID and commitment to continued development of skills
