Shared Living - Community Companion Home (CCH)

The Shared Living Program at Benhaven was developed in the late 1980s. At that time, the Leadership Team envisioned the importance of individuals with intellectual disabilities being afforded the opportunity to experience community life by living with a family.

Individuals who choose to live in a Shared Living Home are provided the supports and services necessary, by members of the Shared Living Home family and Benhaven support staff, to enhance their skills and fulfill their personal goals.

Benhaven is continually seeking families who will share their home with an individual. Families and individuals of diverse backgrounds, cultures and composition are sought, in order that meaningful relationships and life experiences are shared with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Upon the successful completion of the licensing process, which is overseen by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) in coordination with Benhaven staff, a process is initiated to pair an individual with a Shared Living Home – an essential process to for the success of all involved.

Upon the completion of a successful matching process, an individual is placed in the Shared Living Home. Ongoing support is provided by Benhaven Shared Living Team to all involved, in order for everyone to experience continued successes.
