Residential Services

Benhaven operates eight group homes licensed by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services.

  • One home is also licensed as an ICF/DDS facility, and has been cited by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services as the best in the country.
  • Two homes are for students attending Benhaven School.
  •  Six are for adults participating in
  • 24-hour wrap-around program.

Goals of the Residential Program

We are committed to maintaining a high quality standard for all of our group homes, including:

  • Well-trained staff
  • Clean, attractive and comfortable living environments
  • Supportive and inclusive teams

  • Ensuring people live real and fulfilling lives
  • Programming geared toward each individual’s specific needs
  • Helping residents maintain relationships with family
  • Ensuring families receive exactly the kind of support they want from us

Adult Services

Many adults living at Benhaven Residence participate in a 24-hour wrap-around program, where the home provides the day program.  We believe this approach allows each person an experience best suited to his or her interests and support needs.

All of our adult residents hold regular paying and/or volunteer jobs on a daily basis.

Home Environments

To meet our goal of creating stable, structured, home-like living and learning environments, our staff is skilled at:

  • Identifying people's interests, strengths, and needs
  • Creating positive behavioral support plans
  • Providing daily activities and predictable routines
  • Creating warm and friendly home settings
  • Working with families
  • Helping student and families plan and carry out a successful transition to adulthood
